Barry Bonds homeruns led to an investigation that is still going on having to do with the use of Balco and perjury in court when he at first claimed to never using steroids. That pending perjury case has not heard any new news other than a top San Francisco US Attorney by the name of Joseph Russoniello who will be stepping down from hearing this case. He stated in a Mercurynews.com article that he has to stay away from the Balco case because he has possible conflicting interests. In other words, he is a Giants and Barry Bonds fan. Bonds needs someone on his side so hopefully Russoniello passes the screening test.
Bonds record breaking homerun has all but been forgotten now with this looming perjury case. When did athletes stop playing their game and start playing the judicial game? More and more athletes are making the news not for their game play achievements but for athletic controversy. Barry Bonds homeruns are never going to mean the same thing after this case finishes.
