barry bonds homeruns, bonds record breaking homerunI read a recent ESPN article about the need for the Seattle Mariners to pick up Barry Bonds. The argument was in depth but basically said Seattle has a great pitching roster that will be able to keep them safe defensively but offensively they are lacking power. There is no question Barry Bonds homeruns will still fall if he was to be reinstated in the MLB but the media backlash may be too much for any team to handle. Bonds has gone this long without any serious offers and if one was laid on the table you can believe the “Balco” protest signs would hit the field.

The ESPN writer also made the point that Bonds has enough veteran knowledge to know when to take the walk over an explosive swing. Probably so but the fan reaction could do unforeseen things to the team mentality and Barry Bonds homeruns. I also assume the Bonds still feels he is an all-star and would not come play without a hefty pay check. I mean the Bonds record breaking homerun had to have lifted his ego tenfold no matter what has happened since. What do you think?
