barry bonds homeruns

Barry Bonds may be the Homerun King because of his string of Barry Bonds homeruns, but all of that may get washed away in the ugly publicity surrounding Bonds' indictment for perjury and obstruction of justice. According to a brief story posted on the Eyewitness.com website, "Bonds was indicted in November; he is accused of lying under oath about steroid use. Prosecutors say he gave false testimony when he told a grand jury he did not knowingly take steroids. Friday's court appearance was Bonds' first public appearance since the indictment was handed up." Even while the country was enthralled with Barry Bonds homeruns culminating in Bonds record breaking homerun, Bonds was bragging that the Feds would never have anything on him. Despite his athletic prowess and winning ways, Bonds has never been a popular slugger because of his obnoxious, arrogant personality. And it may well be that his hubris will be his undoing. If Bonds is convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice, he may not just have an asterisk next to his name in the baseball hall of fame, he may wind up doing time in a federal pen, and that's no joke. It's a shame that such a talented athlete felt the need to use steroids, and then had the lack of character to lie to the Feds. It's a black day for baseball and may undo Barry Bonds homeruns records.
